XPT Mode
Hytera XPT mode is a great way to introduce your company to a higher tier radio system that is also very cost efficient. XPT (Extended Pseudo Trunking) mode is proprietary only to Hytera. Operating in XPT mode is one step above operating in digital mode and the first and most important step to entering into the higher tier world of radio systems. Hytera has taken a portion of the higher end technology and created an affordable entry level way of trunking your system to create more efficiency and channel space for less cost. Hytera’s RD98 is the perfect start to getting your company’s radio system up and running on a trunking system without breaking the bank. This is one of our most popular installments for our customers. A key benefit of operating in XPT mode is it opens up more channels while using less repeaters. This works by opening up channels if the initial repeater is bogged down with traffic and allows traffic to flow through an open or idle repeater. For example, you can have 4 channels going through one XPT repeater. So, you can have a 16-channel system go through four XPT repeaters, as opposed to the 8 repeaters you would need in conventional digital mode.
Most repeaters, no matter the brand, can operate in some version of XPT mode, however Hytera’s functionality is a bit more user friendly, less expensive and with a robust warranty system in place. Furthermore, if you have a Hytera repeater that is working in XPT Mode, and you own mixed radios (i.e. Motorola, Icom, Kenwood, etc) only the Hyteras can work in XPT mode, the other radios can work on digital mode on that same repeater.
Upper tier Hytera radios are already equipped with the option to use XPT mode. Hytera RD98 repeaters are XPT mode ready. In order to get your XPT mode activated, though, you must purchase a license from Hytera using your model number and serial number.
While the most popular feature is the “all call” feature which allows a single call to be transmitted through the entire system at once, so all channels can hear from a central source.
